The Last Saturday of the Season


When I was asked to photograph a special project featuring the Varsity football seniors and their moms, I knew it would be something meaningful, but I didn’t realize just how special it would become. These young men have shared years of hard work, sweat, and triumph on the field. Some of them have been playing together since youth football back in 5th grade, while others joined the team later. No matter when their paths crossed, the connection they’ve built is undeniable. It is rooted in endurance, trust, and the love of the game.


We originally planned to start this session on the field, but with youth football games in full swing, we had to begin in the weight room instead. At first, I wasn’t sure how that would go but it turned out to be my favorite part of the entire experience. There was something powerful about seeing the moms and their sons together in that space. The laughter, teasing, and proud smiles told stories of early morning practices, long seasons, and years spent on the sidelines cheering for their boys. You could feel the mix of nostalgia and pride as these moms looked at the young men their little boys had grown into.


What also stood out was the camaraderie among the mothers themselves. Many of them have spent countless weekends side by side in bleachers, wrapped in blankets, sharing coffee, and cheering until their voices were gone. Watching them bond, celebrate this milestone, and reflect on how far they all have come.



While organizing large group sessions isn’t usually my favorite type of project, this one reminded me why I love what I do. With the help of a wonderful parent who coordinated logistics with the school and families, everything came together beautifully. The energy, emotion, and connection between everyone made it one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had behind the camera. As these seniors prepare for their next chapters beyond high school it was an honor to capture a moment that celebrates not just their athletic journey, but the family and community that helped get them there.
